Understanding Prostate Cancer
Prostate Cancer is a common type of cancer that affects prostate gland (a gland in the male reproductive system) in males over the age of 60 years. The main function of prostate gland is to produce prostate fluid in semen and to control urine in males. Prostate cancer develops with the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in this gland. It is generally slow-growing cancer as the cells can grow rapidly or slowly depending on the form of cancer and if detected at the earliest stage, can be cured easily.
Though there are no warning signs of early prostate cancer, but when reached at advanced stage, it may cause major signs and symptoms such as:
- a sudden urge to urinate
- trouble urinating
- blood in urine
- decreased force in the stream of urine
